Kentico Manager App Now Available for Windows 8

In July of 2011, Bit-Wizards released their first Windows Phone App, the Kentico Mobile Manager. Developed by Bryan Soltis, the app allows Kentico site administrators the ability to perform basic site functions via a Windows phone. The first Windows 8 Application developed by Bit-Wizards, the Kentico Manager has been certified and is now available in the Windows Store.

Developed in partnership with Kentico Software, an Independent Software Vendor (ISV) and a worldwide industry leader in the CMS and EMS markets, the Kentico Manager for Windows 8 leverages functionality from the Mobile Manager Windows Phone app by allowing Kentico website administrators to manage multiple Kentico websites remotely allowing them to perform useful functions like starting and stopping sites, clearing the site cache and memory, and monitoring the health of their web sites (by viewing the installation event log) through a Windows 8 desktop app.

“The developers & graphic designers at Bit-Wizards have created a very professional and visually appealing application for consumers,” remarked Joe Healy, Microsoft .NET Developer Evangelist. Jim Blizzard, Sr. Developer Technical Specialist at Microsoft loved the app as well saying, “. . . the attention to detail on the functionality and graphic elements was extraordinary.”

With a partnership that extends back to 2004, Bit-Wizards and Kentico have long been technology leaders and early adopters. Both companies understand the significant opportunity for consumers and enterprises that Microsoft’s new touch-based operating system represents. Bit-Wizards CEO, Vince Mayfield, has made Windows 8 development training a priority for his team saying, “Windows 8 and the Windows 8 Marketplace are an evolution in Microsoft’s offerings and represent a transition that now brings three key ingredients necessary to potentially dominate the mobile device revolution sweeping the world today: Operating System, Hardware, and Application Store. The combination of the Windows 8 Operating System and the Microsoft Marketplace brings about a democratization of applications to the desktop.

The new Kentico Windows 8 Manager requires the installation of a web service in the Kentico installation. This web service provides functionality to interact with the application and perform administrative functions.

The Kentico Windows 8 Manager requires a valid SSL certificate on the installation prior to use. This is to ensure all communication with the site is encrypted and secure.
