Heather L. Ruiz

Biography

Heather Ruiz grew up an Air Force Brat, the oldest of four siblings in a military family.  Her father’s active-duty assignments took her from southern California to upstate New York and across the “pond” to England, amongst other places.  However, she spent most of her life living in Northwest Florida.  Heather is married with two children. When she isn’t at the volleyball court or cross-country field, cheering on her children, she leads an active lifestyle running and participating in obstacle course races across the country with her husband.
 
Heather graduated from Niceville High School in 2002, attended Florida State University to earn her Bachelor of Science in Marketing, and returned to the Destin – Fort Walton Beach area to begin her career.  Heather has worked in various industries, including newspapers and magazines, boating and marine, shopping centers, and real estate.  After honing a variety of marketing skills, Heather developed a passion for the tech industry and how it’s changing the dynamic of business and consumer communications.  Wanting to take a deeper dive into the tech arena, Heather found a home at Bit-Wizards.
 
Over the last ten years, Heather won two national awards for marketing excellence as part of the International Council of Shopping Centers and was a recipient of the Florida Public Relations Association Northwest Florida chapter’s For-profit Communicator of the Year and a Person of the Year Nominee.
 
Heather is very passionate about her community.  She currently serves on the Okaloosa County Tourist Development Council and is the 2021 Chairman of the Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.  She also currently serves as a mentor for the Okaloosa County Public Schools Take Stock in Children program and is a past Chairman for the Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation and former Honorary Commander at Eglin AFB.
