Mike Whalen is the Director of Digital Strategy at Bit-Wizards. He is a hybrid developer with both design and development skills and is a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist and Kentico Certified Developer.
"You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take."
Mike joined the team in 2009 and has produced multiple award-winning website designs, has become a Kentico and jQuery expert, and developed a Windows Phone 7 app. He is a go-getter who is responsible for hiring in the Web Design department as well as fostering the team’s growth and pushing to be ahead of the cutting edge. Aside from designing, developing, and managing, Mike has also given public presentations, provided Kentico training, and loves attending conferences.
The day his family finally got Internet access back in 1997, Mike immediately fell in love. As a 14 year old boy, the concept of so much information being easily and readily accessible by anyone in the world completely fascinated him, and he started researching just how a web page was made. Mike pursued his interest throughout high school and graduated from college with a degree in Computer Information Systems. While his education provided a great foundation for his skills, most of what Mike does today is the result of discipline and constant research. He is the first to tell you that, in our industry, if you stand still for 5 minutes, you have already fallen behind, and you always have to be pushing forward.
When not at the office, Mike spends his time with his beautiful wife, Mallory, and their two crazy cats, Daisy and Lily. They share a love for our gorgeous coast, great food and entertainment, and spending time with friends. Mike is also an intense fantasy sports addict and has developed his own data driven website to manage the stats, rules, and rosters for his fantasy league. He also has a passion for music and is a certified audio engineer.
Mike was born and raised in New England. While he loves the culture, people, and memories he left behind, he does not miss the thirteen feet or more of snow and six month winters with sub-zero temperatures. The climate and location of our region is something Mike dreamed about long before he had even heard of Bit-Wizards, and, with that dream now a reality, his next goal is to buy a boat for him and his wife.
