Azure Cloud Deployment for Mapex MyDentity Wins Kentico Site of the Year

In what is arguably one of the most competitive website contests in the world, Bit-Wizards has won recognition for our development of the Mapex MyDentity, a web-based application that allows users to easily configure their own kits by choosing from a large selection of drum types, sizes, and finishes. The Mapex MyDentity site was selected as the winner in the Best Cloud Deployment category over hundreds of global entries.

The Kentico "Site of the Year" contest seeks out the best Kentico CMS web site implementations. It is a way to recognize talented individual and team efforts in web site development and generate internet marketing exposure for the award-winning web sites.

“For anyone involved with the project, it was not a surprise, says Michael Whalen, Bit-Wizards Director of Web Development. “The number of shell and hardware finishes exceeds over 500 million possible kit configurations, meaning there are a large number of images and a need for a robust platform and with plenty of storage capacity as well as an efficient way of quickly delivering those images. Kentico CMS and the Windows Azure platform provided the solution needed for this robust application.”

KHS Musical Instruments is one of the world’s top full-scale musical instrument manufacturers and has many brands of instruments including Jupiter, Mapex, Hercules, Walden, Majestic and Altus. Through extensive market research, KHS identified an opening in the market of drum kits and developed a plan to allow consumers to build and purchase custom configurations through their Mapex brand. The MyDentity application provides a complete experience for their consumers.

The Mapex MyDentity web application is deployed into a large Windows Azure instance that connects to a SQL Azure database and leverages Windows Azure storage and the Azure CDN (Content Delivery Network) for the images, providing KHS the ability to instantly scale without saddling them with additional servers and hardware to manage.

Kentico was the perfect solution for managing content for the MyDentity application. It provides the authentication mechanism, data management interface and integration with Windows Azure and SQL Azure, all necessary for the high-availability and performance requirements of the project.

Mapex MyDentity CASE STUDY

“Bit-Wizards was able to deliver a tool that not only accomplished those immediate goals, but gave us a fully flexible platform that will enable us to keep the MyDentity dynamic and scalable,” said Mike Robinson, Director of Marketing for KHS America.

The Mapex MyDentity site was also given two Best of Show awards at 2012 NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Show. The NAMM show is the largest industry event in the world with thousands of manufactures participating annually. Only six Best of Show awards are given and Mapex was the only company to receive more than one of those awards.

This year’s award marks the second year in a row Bit-Wizards has been awarded Kentico Site of the Year honors. In 2012, the IMG Intranet site won Best Intranet award and the website designed and developed for Florida’s Great Northwest won the Best Cloud Development award.
