A story of entrepreneurship and a labor of love.
In late 1998, while attending a child's birthday party at a Chuck E. Cheese in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Vince Mayfield and Louis Erickson began sketching out ideas on a napkin and laying the groundwork for a technology company. A company rooted in a strong positive culture that would foster the growth of the individual employee and also raise the bar for other technology companies.
In 1999 at the height of the DotCom boom, Vince moved to Austin from Fort Walton Beach, Florida with his two Labrador Retrievers. He moved in with his best friend Louis Erickson and his five cats (yes five cats.) For most of the first year, Vince and Louis worked out of their living room in Austin, Texas. During this time they both agreed it would be best to move the company back to their hometown of Fort Walton Beach, Florida. And in 2000 they moved the company just a few blocks from where Vince grew up in Shalimar, Florida. Bit-Wizards had its first official physical office (pictured above.)
From 2001 until 2006, Bit-Wizards continued to add larger clients to their portfolio.
2005 brought with it Bit-Wizards' first major partnership, they were now a Microsoft Certified Gold Partner, and the only one within 150-mile radius. As revenues grew, so did the staff and a new location was needed to house the growing Wizards team.
In July 2006 another move was on the horizon. The Wizards moved to a new larger location atop the Bank of America building in Fort Walton Beach, which just happened to be a few blocks from Louis' childhood home. Along with this move came significant upgrades to the network and equipment including a new phone system.
Now seven years old, the Bit-Wizards' client list had grown tremendously to include Fortune 2000 companies like Dow Chemical, Motorola, and General Dynamics. Along with these awesome clients, Bit-Wizards had become the primary software development vendor for Pilot Catastrophe based in Mobile, Alabama.
Like any growing company, there is always room for new lines of business and expansion of services. In 2007 Five Flags Web Solutions was acquired, and Bit-Wizards added three new employees to the Wizard team to continue the web development service offering.
The next few years brought tremendous growth, and many new Wizards joined the ranks.
In 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2014 Bit-Wizards made Inc. Magazine’s List of the Top 5000 Fastest Growing Privately Held Companies. Also in 2011 Bit-Wizards was named in the inaugural group of the 50 Florida Companies to Watch.
The end of 2013 brought another location move to a much larger (15,000 sq ft) and completely remodeled building in Fort Walton Beach. This move was instrumental in the next phases of growth and the opening of new lines of business for Bit-Wizards. The team now had a complete internal creative agency offering and also a fully operational IT services team. Along with this move, the Wizards were honored for a fifth year in a row as one of Florida Trend Magazine's Best Companies to Work for.
The Wizard team continues to grow, as we are constantly looking for the most talented software engineers, creative professionals, and infrastructure engineers to make our team smarter and even more dedicated to the success of our clients.
