Darin Smith, Project Manager

Darin R. Smith

Project Manager

Darin grew up on a farm in a small village in Ohio, where she did all kinds of things that had nothing to do with technology. After graduating from high school, she went to the University of Toledo for a degree in Accounting. Although Darin decided halfway through that she didn’t want to be an accountant; she continued her studies with the logic that every company had an accountant somewhere. After graduation, she worked as a district director for MDA where she managed 200+ fundraising events a year and managed the local production of the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon.

Biography

Darin grew up on a farm in a small village in Ohio, where she did all kinds of things that had nothing to do with technology. After graduating from high school, she went to the University of Toledo for a degree in Accounting. Although Darin decided halfway through that she didn’t want to be an accountant; she continued her studies with the logic that every company had an accountant somewhere. After graduation, she worked as a district director for MDA where she managed 200+ fundraising events a year and managed the local production of the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon.

However, non-profit work ultimately wasn’t her thing, and she took a Fiscal Manager position with the State of Ohio. It wasn’t until she became the inadvertent administrator of a Windows 95 peer to peer network that she decided technology could be a great career. This realization was followed by an MBA in Information Systems and a tech support job supporting Solomon Software (now Dynamics Solomon) at various companies, including Microsoft.

Microsoft eventually closed the office where she worked, and Darin transitioned into a support position. It was here that she learned about the consulting business, including defining requirements, documenting processes, estimates, managing client relationships, etc. Darin spent 11 years in various positions with this organization before being recruited by a friend as a project manager for Hanson Inc, a digital agency in Toledo, OH. She spent the next 8+ years learning the business of web development, and all that goes with managing it. Her clients included several national brands, many of which won awards for the sites Hanson developed for them.
In 2018, her husband accepted a new position in Pensacola, Florida. Darin continued to work remotely for Hanson for the next year, traveling to Ohio once a month. About a year after moving to Florida, Darin accepted her position with Bit-Wizards as a project manager and became a full-time Floridian.

Darin, her husband Smitty, and their yellow lab puppy Dex live in a “tiny home” fifth wheel RV in Pensacola. In her downtime, she loves to read and go to the beach with her dog.  She and her husband love riding their Harley, hanging out with friends, and eating all the great food along the coast. They also scuba dive and enjoy having so many great dive sites in Florida. Sometimes they even find things to put in their saltwater fish tank at home.
