Biography

Kellie has come to the world of software engineering through her husband, Josh. They met in 2012 at the University of Central Florida at a football game while pregaming with their respective fraternities, Phi Mu Alpha (Josh) and Sigma Alpha Iota (Kellie). He accompanied her a few months later to a music event she had to attend for one of her classes, and she knew then that he was going to be the one she married. Josh and Kellie married in July 2014 and welcomed their daughter, Jaina, in 2015. Since then, they have a collection of puppies: Bruce Wayne, Harley Quinn, and Ivy. She is an avid video gamer, reader, and artist, including any form of music, painting, and drawing. Kellie is an open book— if you ask her a question on any of her favorite topics, be ready to have a new friend.

In her professional journey, Kellie wanted to be a music educator; with life throwing wrenches into the plan as it often does, she followed the footsteps of her father and grandfather into the world of banking. Her experiences include working on a teller line, being backstage at Disney Resorts helping people with their accounts, and working in the mortgage industry closing home loans.

In October of 2022, Kellie started to feel bored with the safety of the banking industry and sought a new adventure with something extremely mentally challenging: software engineering. She had a basic grasp of how things operated after being married to Josh for several years. After several conversations, Kellie decided to dive in and start learning a completely new skill. The best piece of advice her husband gave her was to find something she was passionate about and create an app for it. At the time, Kellie was a new motorcycle rider and found a serious lack of apps for motorcycle safety. As she started learning to code in Kotlin, she began creating an app for motorcycle riding tracking. The app is still in the basic stages, but the goal is to help save lives with the safety features she plans to incorporate in this tracking app.

Kellie completed the course on Kotlin Android Development in Udacity and has several apps from the course in her GitHub repository. She looks forward to expanding her knowledge and tackling any challenges that are in her future here with Bit-Wizards.
