Martin R. Westwood
Director of Engineering
Martin was born in England, where he spent his childhood living in its idyllic countryside dreaming of bigger things. After a last-minute change of heart steered him away from becoming a Civil Engineer for the Royal Navy, he turned his attention to professionally pursuing (what up until then had been a hobby) computer programming, Having graduated from the University of Essex with a Computer Science degree, and with some real world development experience under his belt, Martin immigrated to South Florida in 1999.
Biography
Martin was born in England, where he spent his childhood living in its idyllic countryside dreaming of bigger things. After a last-minute change of heart steered him away from becoming a Civil Engineer for the Royal Navy, he turned his attention to professionally pursuing (what up until then had been a hobby) computer programming, Having graduated from the University of Essex with a Computer Science degree, and with some real world development experience under his belt, Martin immigrated to South Florida in 1999.
While waiting on a delayed green card due to 9/11, Martin met his future wife and very quickly went from single to married, with a step daughter and three foster children (his two nieces and nephew). With a need to be closer to his wife’s family driving them, they moved to Pensacola a few months after Hurricane Ivan. While settling into rural Pensacola Martin and his family were blessed with a son who seems like he may follow in Dad’s footsteps.
Martin’s career in Software Development spans 27 years across multiple development environments and technologies, but with a focus on Visual Studio (C#) and Delphi. He is a lifelong learner that is happiest when challenged by learning new technologies, skills, and code bases. Having worked with several current and former Wizards, Martin was excited when he was given the opportunity to become a Wizard himself and jumped at the opportunity to become part of the team.
Driven by a desire to make a positive difference to the teams he is a part of, Martin is excited to see how he can help in his new role as a Wizard.
